There's broad bipartisan support for basic progressive values (when they're not labeled as such, because identity bias is a thing) but leaders of both parties somehow think "what we need is a return to politics of the 1980s" because that was their own heyday.

Most of the power players have been in their roles for longer than that. They've lost touch.

What's even wilder is that if you look at nationwide polls (taken with a grain of salt of course), the VAST majority of Americans support progressive things like affordable health care & same sex marriage.

A lot of the young (20-something) progressives I know sat out the last election. To be fair, I don't think many of them believed how bad things would get (in spite of my warnings). They wanted to send a message about their refusal to participate in the party moving ever further to the right.

Dem strategists still think the way they win back seats is courting moderate conservatives away from the GOP. None of them will admit that it's this refusal to commit to more progressive values that's costing them wins.
