We’re a church home for the church homeless. Sarcastic wiseass pastor with a flock of equally snarky Jesus followers, trying to fight the good fight for justice, loving kindness, and truffle-shuffling humbly with God!
On today’s episode of “things you never expected to hear talked about by the church…”

Consent in marriage is an absolute, but it’s also a deeper issue than folks tend to realize. We tend to imagine it solely in terms of force and sex, but marriage itself is a bond of consent to fidelity. Even in relationships which are otherwise not abusive, that is a convent violation in itself.

“This was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease but did not aid the poor and needy.” Ezekiel 16:49, NRSVUE

And that means Jesus Christ only gets to be called “Oily Josh” from now on too.

…but if your company is harming people on such a profound scale that they’re willing to shoot the CEO dead in the street, and I’ve got to spend my entire week reminding people that killing is actually bad, then MAYBE you’re not exactly the heroes of the story. 2/2

I’m noticing that…and I’m not at all sure why. Manually entered in, it works just fine, but bluesky’s link system seems to be doing…something? Sadly, I’m a pastor and not an IT guy so my understanding is somewhat limited here…

Oh, and on the off chance that this takes off, here’s the church website. Don’t let our location fool you; most of our community is online around the world anyways!

7) Seriously, my fellow Americans, *that verse doesn’t mean what you think it does.* Put that Bible down for a second, read a bit about the history of biblical transitions, expand your mind a bit, then come back to Jesus and remember that it’s all about loving others.

5) Educated clergy is vital because, as you may have noticed, NO THAT VERSE DOESN’T MEAN WHAT YOU THINK IT DOES.
6) Christianity is a learning process; just because a theologian in our tradition said something hundreds of years ago doesn’t mean we follow the most literalist take possible today.

3) Swearing is fine, and no that verse doesn’t say what you think it does.
4) Jesus only ever really condemns unrepentant wealthy and powerful people who abuse religious power for their own benefit. No, that verse doesn’t mean what you think it does, and it definitely doesn’t mean guns are OK
