The ozone layer, an invisible shield around the Earth protects all living things from the effects of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation. Through the Protocol’s Kigali Amendment, countries are helping to avoid an estimated 0.5°C of warming by 2100.
The ozone hole was real. The danger was global.

World leaders acted together, and the ozone layer is healing.

This World Ozone Day, we celebrate what science and cooperation can achieve. 🌍

In 1985, the Vienna Convention set the stage for fixing the ozone hole.

It showed the power of countries coming together around science. A model we still need today.

On this #WorldOzoneDay we also celebrate the science that in the 1970s warned of a looming environmental crisis and the ozone treaties that continue to protect the ozone layer & environment to this day 🌿 Science it not cheap, but its value is beyond measure #MontrealProtocol #Science #GlobalAction

Big discoveries begin with small measurements.

In Antarctica, scientists measured the ozone hole, and changed the world.

As #WorldOzoneDay approaches, we will also celebrate the adoption of the Vienna Convention in 1985.

Together, the ozone treaties continue to protect life on Earth. True global action heroes - then and now 🌿

You can't protect what you don't measure.

@bas.ac.uk's Jonathan Shanklin explains why long-term monitoring still matters for the ozone layer and for the planet.
