An interesting discussion. Thought provoking. The authors level criticism at the left that it has adopted language of the right, but so have they (eg, get regulations out of the way). They acknowledge the value of some regulations in passing.

A beautiful book published in 1960 but still relevant. Examines that space between life and death, and questions the meaning and value of each. Existentialist and moody.

Acquired two books in French recently. The Bonheur was a gift from @mab365.bsky.social . The Dabos was based on a recommendation from the Currently Reading podcast. I happened to find the book in French cheap on Abe Books. #booksky #currentlyreading

51% of the 350 homes in Paradise built after 2008 regulations requiring fire resistant construction survived. 18% of homes built before survived. Regulations work. #booksky

Finished this yesterday. I recommend it. The connection with Twain's work was probably unnecessary from a narrative standpoint, but I suspect reading the two together would be enlightening. Often didactic but casual (American) readers may need to be hit over the head with meaning. #booksky

Went to the protest at the Capitol. On the way home I made the mistake of listening to the news.

This is an excellent if sobering look at American evangelical Christianity. It is a five star read even though I fundamentally disagree with the author's own Christian optimism. At one point he echoes Luke Skywalker, saying that he knows there is Christian love in there somewhere. I don't. #booksky

Shit like this will quickly make Bluesky uninhabitable. FYI "Sarah," my OF budget is $0 and I have already exceeded it.
