Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art…

Mostly books, poetry and art. Music. Politics once in a while.
Footfalls echo in the memory
Down the passage which we did not take
Towards the door we never opened
Into the rose-garden.

T.S. Eliot, Burnt Norton

When in disgrace with fortune & men’s eyes
I all alone beweep my outcast state
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries
And look upon myself & curse my fate

Haply I think on thee & then my state
Like to the lark at break of day arising…sings hymns at heaven’s gate

Just saw the new #SpikeLee film #Highest2Lowest w/ Denzel Washington & A$AP Rocky.

A fast paced thriller, the story line keeps you hooked. Spike Lee’s cinematography is gorgeous as always; Denzel is brilliant.

Yet, it is somewhat uneven & unlike Do the Right Thing, Lee turns away from youth & rap.

“This feels good, I thought. I'm just happy he's here. I don't need him to be mine. I wanted to appreciate him the way I did giant trees in the park, which gave people shelter and relief but didn't belong to anybody.”

“Time simply floated open and started to expand. Time held the two of us in light, inside a space so vast it might have reached the heavens, and turned eternal.”

Cathedral

Crosby Stills & Nash

Ever since I first heard this song in 1977 it’s haunted me…

🎶I'm flying in Winchester Cathedral;
It's hard enough to drink the wine.
The air inside just hangs in illusion,
But, given time, I'll be fine.
I'll be fine.🎶
