Definitely a victim of party composition, I'd say. I think it was just unfortunate that the rest of the party worshipped the same dying God. Between Theurgy, Sorcery and Witchcraft, corruption is somewhat controllable but still dangerous. Magic isn't used lightly in the setting.

Not to be a Free League shill but Dragonbane, Symbaroum & Forbidden Lands are Def near the top. Dragonbane is just a nice D&D alternative, love the settings of both Symbaroum & Forbidden Lands, and Symbaroums dice system feels inventive. Also, haven't played/run But I am reading/enjoying Shadowdark.
