How many writers write with this much confidence? Sutherland suggested that JA deliberately did not leave space for revision (unlike other writers of the time). Poignant to see the MS & letters alongside the lock of George Austen's hair that JA kept folded in this little piece of paper.

I love The Merchant's House, Marlborough. It's the opposite of the drab 17th-century stereotype!

#OTD 15th December 1660, #Milton is released from the Tower of London. Earlier that year he had been in hiding, an order for his arrest was issued, and his books were called in and burnt by the public executioner. He escaped the death penalty but was liable to assassination.
