There's an old axiom that says "Unless America is in decline, there will never be an American pope."

Well.....

Got a second tattoo about a month ago. Designed it myself. Quite proud of it.

I bring it up only to feel good about something that's not political...So here you go!

Just letting anyone interested to know that there's a good number of us out here who are ready to march and protest and make our voices heard

Remember that in all the noise we've heard about all the cuts... not one bit of evidence has been shared with the public or submitted to Congress. Not one.

Yesterday afternoon, in a bizarre performance, President Donald Trump hosted reporters in the Oval Office, the formal working space of the President of the United States.

We must combat the pervasive, plutocratic influence of Elon Musk. He holds citizenship in three countries -- South Africa, Canada and the US, so his influence is worldwide. We cannot allow this man to infiltrate our government, such as it is. Thinking about another letter to Congress... Interested?

I always do my best to share good things out here. Today I've just been flat out angry. What has happened in our lives in recent days makes me wonder: Why do so many folks just not give a damn anymore?

Okay, Ron. You've had your day. So tomorrow... onward... and I will. But it just ain't easy...

As painful as it seems, people should understand what America faces right now. It's a repeat-plus from the first time this mistake was made. Stay aware. WRITE YOUR REPS when you need to; they listen, even if it seems that nothing is being done. And look out for each other. It's what we do.

Every day at the railroad tracks, I'd sneak down often as I could. Trains came by four times a day like clockwork. I'd feel its vibration under my feet. I'd count the cars... And that train whistle... crying, longing. And I fell in love with it, a love I know to this day... Take me with you, pal...

I have to learn how to share in less than 300 characters! I use my FB page as a kind of journal. Here, one's thoughts cannot be so expansive. Wonder how you lobby for more? Lol... In any case:

The truly committed actor goes to where the work is. I'm now learning this yet again...stay tuned.

I've decided that because of two things -- the state of social media in general AND the disappearance of any kind of political/societal awareness in truth -- I am going to change what I offer out here. Maybe Bluesky will raise the limit of characters we use.

FB has become a real chore, for sure...

Happy Holidays, all...

I find Christmas Day to be an actual relief, released from all the expectations that I constantly come up short on. So I think I will hit the saloon down the street for some drink and some peace. I wish you all a fabulous Christmas Eve and hope your Day has all good things!

Hello all! The holidays are slowing me down a bit, but I'm still here. Saw this and thought I'd share with football fans.

Just remembering that today is the anniversary of my move to Chicago. Smartest thing I ever did, as it turned out.

One of the great books I've read in recent years, JAMES by Percival Everett, just won the National Book Award for fiction. It tells the eloquent and painful story of the runaway slave Jim, Huck's friend in the Mark Twain classic THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN. Eloquent. Painful. Fabulous book!

If you go to my FB page, you'll see a story about my first exchange with someone famous. Not that it's important, but he was a real hero to me... Steve Allen.
