I have to admit that I fell off of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 fairly hard because once the final party member joined it messed up the really weird play style I was using.

I think there is this odd little pocket games where they aren't sandbox enough to be a "sandbox game", but just sandbox enough that more many players don’t realize it is one, then blame the game for being repetitive.
