Crafter. Mum (of child and dog). Middle aged grumpy feminist. Occasional wild swimmer. Scot by choice.
Getting proof once more that I have the best friends. I need to do a very long and sad drive to southern Germany soon, and two pals have spontaneously volunteered to join me and help with the driving and provide moral support... one heading down and one coming back.

My 9yo had a genuine, full blown meltdown when we put a roof box on our car before we got around to taking him through an automated car wash in it.

Baby squished a nerve from about 18 weeks on, leaving me with a numb patch on my thigh and random shooting pains down my leg. Had to suspend table service in my wee cafe cause I'd randomly deck it with trays of hot drinks.

SmallFry, then aged 4ish, was fascinated by a non binary pal and one day - considering his own genitalia - asked me if I thought the "half and half" bit went through the belly button vertically or horizontally. Friend concluded vertically, cause they had some boy brain and some girl brain.

Oh, don't get me started.....

Yup! Although they happened after my prime Asterix reading phase. There's a Scots version, too!

I was gonna make an Asterix joke, but then I realised I read them in German and probably can't reproduce the humour in English. When multilingualism goes wrong!

I hadn't discovered them when I was actually breastfeeding, but I had my gallbladder out just before lockdown and they were a lifesaver cause the incisions were just down from where the underwire would normally be.

Can I also recommend Molke bras? Functional and with loads of fun AND nerdy prints.

My partner and I made a ton of these the first Christmas together, as foodie gifts for friends, and they were amazing.

That's a really lovely way to approach it.

We're in similar, albeit with a STEM obsessed 9 year old, and are leaning heavily into "at the end of the day, we're all stardust" which my sentimental brain loves and also satisfies small person's sad logic.

I read that as Tipping Point and was SO confused ....

Ireland/Scotland and half two

Thank you.

It couldn't, but I'll be forever grateful. There's only me and I'm in a different country with a lot of life (self employed, young child, dog, etc) and he really did everything to make the awful less awful. He was of a generation that doesn't "do" emotions, but I know I was so loved.

He'd even already "hired" a funeral director and given detailed instructions on what he wanted. Although he did somehow neglect to then leave a note of WHICH funeral director, so that was a fun morning sleuthing. 😆

My dad just passed away and, like the genius he was, left a series of labelled folders in a locked filing cabinet with pretty much everything I needed....including bank details, powers of attorney and phone numbers for friends that could help with bureaucracy, etc.

We did, in 2017!

One Day Without Us was intended to be just that.

There's an alien on Paisley Cathedral!

Friend passed away too young from myeloma and the dress code was "rainbows, dachshunds and dinosaurs". I was quite pleased with my rainbow dress for the occasion until I spotted the pal in a full dinosaur costume. Perfection.

My father passed away in Germany 10 days ago and I came back home from doing Sadmin late on Tuesday...but did a clever & booked myself in for the most amazing Thai massage first thing on Wednesday, then returned to work and much thoughtfulness from staff & friends yesterday. I am well looked after.

I bet!

Currently experiencing this in Germany and actually mildly bemused at how straightforward some of it is, given previous experience of German bureaucracy. That said, we're still in various holding patterns for insignificant stuff...such as unsealing the will or even acknowledgment thereof...m
