They could also drop Oklahoma behind Notre Dame on the off chance BYU wins the Big XII and Alabama wins the SEC. That would kick out OU instead of Notre Dame who basically everyone agrees is a much better team than OU.

Especially because there is recent precedent to exclude an undefeated conference champion from the playoff if their QB is out

Not sure what doomerism is, but fascism tends to follow certain templates and trying to cancel elections, even if “illegal” is on the list of things they’ll definitely try to do. Being aware of that and trying to figure out a plan to stop it isn’t “giving in”

Obviously it’s against the law, but they’re not trying to follow the law. They’re acting until they’re stopped. They will try to cancel elections unless the people show up on the streets and force elections.
