Genealogy is the next thing on my list after the PhD. I have a few photos like that (my great grandma’s senior photos actually look a lot like mine!) and they’re always amazing to see!

I got to do that about 6 months ago, and it was SO satisfying. I’m holding on to that feeling and using it as motivation to get my dissertation done.

Agreed! I ran into this yesterday with my dissertation and adding the Word plugin. I can tag sources and Zotero will add citations and compile the references, but it can’t detect the 80+ pages of already cited. I have to go back and re-tag those manually.

My grandson has a rare fatal mitochondrial disease, and his parents found out yesterday that there had been successful clinical trials in mice, but all progress toward human trials had been stopped because of the administrative change. And it’s so rare it’s likely to be one of the last reinstated.

Maryanne Wolf’s book “Reader, Come Home” talks about this in a really accessible and engaging way (imo).

She’s big on stressing the importance of digital skim-reading to today’s world, while also encouraging people to engage in deep reading through long-form, preferably non-digital works.
