Last I counted, I have 11 sewing machines in the shop. One of my main sewing machines is my Toyota LS2-AD157-103. It has an oil pan that needs draining and replacing from time to time. Not digital, doesn't auto backtack, doesn't cut the thread, but it gets the job done.

Tape! Specifically, SpeedTape from @fastcapllc.

I use this tape to create a clean edge by taping the wrong side of my fabric and using the width of my tape as a guide to fold over and secure to create a finished edge for sewing.
