UMD admin, take notice: 1000 grads came out to our Majority March on Oct 1 to say that we're done playing by your rules. Negotiate with us now, or we WILL shut it down!

UMD is once again stealing grad wages - 100+ grads across multiple colleges and departments are missing pay for their work this summer. Yesterday, we went to demand answers from admin and remind them that UMD works because we do and wage theft is illegal!

UPDATE: UMD intends to "do our very best to be responsive to the Federal inquiry", w no guarantee to protect our Chinese campus members. In addition to signing the petition, you can email UMD leaders and call out their compliance w this bad faith request for info: umd-glu.github.io/dontcomply.h...

We will do our very best to be responsive to the Federal inquiry while upholding the universities policies and procedures, as well as our commitment to first amendment rights and academic freedom. If any member of our UMD community feels that their rights might be violated please have them contact either our Legal Office, or the appropriate person in the graduate school, Provost Office or President's Office. We thank you for your collective advocacy, and be rest assured that the administration is working to uphold our values and mission.

On 3/19, UMD got a letter from a House committee asking for info on Chinese faculty/students and their research/funding. We expect this will be used to target our Chinese friends and colleagues under the pretense of "national security". Tell UMD: DON'T COMPLY! forms.gle/cnpvZB4GK7je...

In large red letters the text reads - UMD: DON'T COMPLY Our demands to UMD: 1. Refuse to provide any information pertaining to Chinese faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students requested in this letter by the House Select Committee on the CCP. 2. Reject any and all voluntary cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). 3. Provide institutional and financial support for students, staff, and faculty who are targeted, denied entry, and/or deported and take proactive measures to prevent such violations of privacy, due process, and civil liberties. 4. Publicly reaffirm the university’s commitment to academic freedom, inclusivity, and the protection of all members of its community, regardless of national origin, race, or ethnicity.
