Kiki’s Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro are very sweet, and good places to start. Spirited Away is amazing, but the story can be a tad tricky to follow because it’s so surreal. Princess Mononoke is equally good, but it’s fairly serious, albeit the most action-packed of these movies.
