Prior to joining UM, they were responsible for managing the paleobotanical collection at the Field Museum in Chicago IL. Their research at the University of Manitoba focuses on ecological drivers and diversity of plant mycobiomes, particularly in wetland settings.

Klymiuk is an autistic nonbinary Two-Spirit asexual first generation scholar, who began their academic career as a paleontologist at the University of Alberta (BSc. Paleontology, MSc. Systematics and Evolution) and the University of Kansas, where they transitioned into microbial ecology.

Her lab at the University of Michigan uses conventional and single molecule fluorescence imaging methods to rigorously apply physical concepts of phase separation to understand functional processes within complex cellular systems.

In postdoctoral work at Cornell University, she found that plasma membranes isolated from cells are biologically tuned to be near a phase transition at growth temperature.
