A British Airways (BA/BAW) flight from Las Vegas to London Heathrow suffered a bizarre event yesterday when one of the main wheels separated from the aircraft after departing Las Vegas and whilst the gear was retracting. In video, widely shared in the Internet, the Airbus A350 is seen departing in a normal fashion from Las Vegas and climbing out when a wheel detaches from the main bogey and falls to the ground. The video was captured by Flightradar24's automated live stream. The Airbus A350-1000 continued on with its planned flight and landed safely on 11 main wheels at London Heathrow Airport (LHR/EGLL). An image, widely shared on social media, shows the A350s main bogey with the missing wheel. A spokesperson for British Airways said: "safety and security underpins everything we do and we're supporting the authorities with their investigations" An investigation is now underway to find out why the wheel detached from the aircraft.

London Gatwick (LGW/EGKK) has seen a significant boost to its European and medium-haul network this week as airlines finalise their summer 2026 schedules. The announcements, led by the Lufthansa Group and Wizz Air, underscore a growing trend of carriers pivoting towards Gatwick to secure growth that remains elusive at a slot-constrained Heathrow. Eurowings Moves Operations South In the most notable move of the week, German carrier Eurowings has confirmed it will relocate a substantial portion of its London flying from Heathrow to Gatwick starting 29 March 2026.

US carrier Delta Airlines has placed an order with Airbus for 31 additional widebody airlines as it looks to grow its fleet. The order consists of 16 A330-900s and 15 A360-900s which will serve Delta's expanding long-haul markets. Delta's fleet of all Airbus aircraft ranges from the single aisle A220 and A320 family of aircraft through to the A350-1000 and it has a backlog with the European OEM of 200 aircraft.

Global parcel and logistics giant UPS has confirmed it will retire all of its entire 27 strong fleet of McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) MD11s replacing them with the incoming Boeing 767 Freighters, 15 of which they expect to have delivered this year. All MD11s have been grounded since the 8th November following a fatal crash in Louisville, Kentucky last November which saw the No1 engine detach from the aircraft due to structural failure of the pylon.

The latest named storm to hit the UK, Storm Chandra, was causing significant disruption at UK airports this morning with strong winds and flooding affecting many areas. According to data from viation analytics firm Cirium, as of 9am this morning 43 flights had been cancelled from UK airports, including 4 that were due to depart across the Atlantic to the US.

Airbus Helicopters recorded a robust performance in 2025, securing 544 gross orders (536 net) from 205 customers across 50 countries, underlining continued growth across its civil, parapublic and military portfolios. The manufacturer delivered 392 helicopters during the year and captured a 51% share of the global civil and parapublic market, while its military market share rose to 28%. Ground Support Equipment (GSE) manufacturer, Newbow Aerospace has opened a new fabrication facility in the West Midlands. The 4,000sq ft fabrication unit doubles the current production capacity and will allow Newbow to scale up production of GSE trailers and carts to meet the new airline contracts it won last year. Those contracts include British Airways’ Line Maintenance operation at London Gatwick with will see Newbow deliver a number of trailers in support of the airline’s Airbus A320 and Boeing 777 fleet.

Seattle, Washington based OEM Boeing delivered 600 aircraft in 2025, almost 200 less than its European rival, Airbus. Boeing's final tally consisted of 447 single-aisle airliners and 153 wide-body aircraft, including freighters.
