Attorney, for my sins.

🇨🇦 in 🇺🇸

Bagpiper, dancer, cyclist, lover (but not owner) of dogs, recovering Catholic.
I’ve had this question 2-3 times this week in office hours.

I nearly fell out of my chair.

He was such an incredible talent. And he always seemed to exude such unalloyed joy. We are none of us better for him leaving us far, far too soon.

Thanks for sharing this, Chris.

Fun to note that the last pope named Leo condemned the heresy of Americanism (though what he condemned isn’t usually what people think of when they think about the American church’s bad behavior).

Maybe this Leo will condemn “New Americanism.”

I need to figure out how to make this the notification when I get text messages. It might be the platonic form of a bork!

If the head of OLC at the time of writing is the current office holder, the former SG of Ohio, he was already well on his way to the judgeship. Judging by the way he argued in front of the Ohio Supreme Court, he’s got the insufferable thing down pat.

I’m feeling slightly ashamed that my brain recognized “woah” as incorrect, but took a really long time to click about why it was incorrect. The more I teach the dumber I get?

Tempted to put his exchange into the example file for my legal writing classes

With apologies for totally missing the point of the post—but I love that stole! (Though I’m inclined to love anything with the “Angus Dei” motif on it)

Not that my opinion means much of anything. But these are my two favorite Discworld books, too. And in that order!

I cannot quite express why (and maybe it’s as simple as how you’ve put it), but this appointment is quite exciting. Something about it “feels right.”

That sheep has run out of f***s to give. If it ever had any …

You’re very welcome.!

Thanks for all your photos.
As a dog person whose life doesn’t afford him the opportunity to have a dog, seeing your gang’s exploits is a real gift.

That’s St. Francis of Assisi!! It’s where I go to confession and mass when I’m in Manhattan (which admittedly isn’t often!) It is the church that Fr. Judge was buried out of following his death on 9/11.
It’s beautiful inside and out.

I cannot like this post due to the presence of tOSU swag.

This article does not live up to its headline and is disappointing on *several* levels (including the one you’ve mentioned!)

I like Mary Puppins’s rave collar 😆

Short of one of them coming to my writing class and explaining why it’s ok for them overturn lower court decisions or overrule precedent with less analysis than required for a passing grade in my course, I can’t accept the claims that they’re operating in good faith or as principled jurists.

What drives me nuts is the platforms the justices are given to do this scolding. And I’d like to think my beef is “bipartisan.” They show up at these events where all they simply answer pre-approved questions offered by a sympathetic interlocutor.

These pictures really do make my day.

And smol hooman continues to be less smol with each picture. It’s great!

I am surprised (only because I’m learning of it today) and heartened to learn of your correct opinion on the St. Viateur bagel!

Being a 🇨🇦 in the 🇺🇸, this brings me joy.

It’s been fun trying to explain to 1Ls in our legal analysis and writing classes that, yes, precedent and stare decisis really do matter.

This sounds a bit like the article I want to write arguing that John Roberts isn’t actually a good legal writer because he uses seemingly profound prose to mask really bad analysis. (Or maybe this makes him the best legal writer!?!? 🤔)

I sometimes wonder what I’ve lost so that the definition of proximate cause can take up mental real estate.
