We found a surge in cargo flights, from nearly none in early 2024 to 40+ per week in mid-2025.

China has tried for years to transform the region into an export-driven manufacturing hub through initiatives like Open up the Northwest (1990s), Western Development (2000s), and the Belt and Road Initiative (2010s), but FTZs are a newer development.
