AI was a key adjunctive component to this work. By performing an over representation analysis of EV cargo using a multi-omic network (integrated using deep learning), a unique set of pathways emerged, enabling focus on endothelial angiogenesis. 🔍💡

This work underscores the importance of the endothelium in governing vulnerable plaque biology and highlights a rationale for strategically modifying endothelial EV cargo to deliver novel therapies in atherosclerosis.

They examined EV origin and communication, uncovering and identifying key endothelial networks that predominate in symptomatic plaques with functional effects that typify vulnerability to rupture (i.e., stroke).
June 3, 2025 at 3:36 PM
The team assessed extracellular vesicle (EV) cargo from asymptomatic (stable, no stroke) and symptomatic (vulnerable, recent stroke) carotid plaques using adjacent non-plaque regions as controls.
