Look at this cat and tell her she can’t have a free house. Just try.

This is odd

From the Times morning newsletter. I hate this kind of framing. The key reason for birthright citizenship isn’t precedent. It’s the 13th amendment. The Times knows this. They could’ve noted that was the constitutional argument at the center of the case. Instead, we’re told it’s just about precedent.

There are times when I want to go beyond the headline to see if there’s anything interesting or introspective they have to say. I tried. But they asked me to go a step too far.

Judging by some of the account names, I think some of them are forgetting to log out before getting on and trying to attack AOC “from the left.” Plenty of just shitty people though.

Reread your own post until your what you said is drilled into your own head.

The best Vance role-playing we got in action from the time he got donuts.

Just a heads up on the setting for it. Not hard to find.

This is the right. This is their violence. Even in the wake of the president getting what he wants and stepping all over free speech, all he continues to do is project hate and threaten people. You want to be his apologist? Don’t be surprised when America wants nothing to do with you.

Flop cat buddies

They won’t tell his family. They won’t talk to the press. This is beyond unacceptable. The machine that this administration has built to carry this out is inhuman and unacceptable in a free society and must be torn apart.

This is the rest of that conversation. If there’s a human mind behind that account, it’s not one I can comprehend. I guess I’m glad someone is keeping the spirit of insane internet nonsense alive.

I didn’t make this but it’s great.

This bit reminds me of arguments about funding against crime in Baja California in the 90’s. People wanted youth programs and infrastructure. That was “too expensive.” The government offered militarized police with shotguns patrolling streets. Crime got worse, some police joined the cartels.

This remains my biggest issue day-to-day with it. People I know who use chatgpt seem to be losing their ability to think. They use it as referees for arguments. They use it to *end* discussion.

This is so insane on so many levels. Altman is selling the idea of a Dyson sphere to power AI (or a benefit of it?) on an idiot’s podcast. Engineers and scientists who have considered the idea think it would take a dozen dozen generations to build if even possible, which it likely is not.

Great write up. Some things that stood out: this bit felt so descriptive of this moment in history. Not just about our technology but our government and its policies

I went a took a look for myself. Dowd’s carrying water for authoritarianism got priority over a long, grounded conversation about authoritarian danger. But in the comments of her own op-ed, most Times readers are taking the same positions Hobbes is and countering Dowd’s position.
