An excerpt from a 1992 New York Times article on “Vanity Labels” or Record Labels that are started by celebrities and usually fail. One such label that was started by the members of Jefferson Airplane signed a group called One. The lead singer of One used the stage name Reality D. Blipcrotch and apparently “sang through his nose”.

Some books from the St. Louis county library. Kwame Nkrumah’s “Neo-colonialism: The Last Stage of Imperialism” which was borrowed for dissertation research. Then, “Daniel Tiger Goes to the Dentist”, “Olaf’s Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Monster Hands” were borrowed for my toddler.

Made a pretty phenomenal focaccia yesterday with my 2 year old.
Focaccia in a deep stainless steel pan. Looks more like tectonic plates shifting than a nice, dimpled bread. BUT the golden brown color is lovely A piece of the focaccia. Nice and pillowy with a good amount of air pockets.

Some tacos de carnitas from a restaurant in Atlanta called El Azteca. They have jalapeño coleslaw on them and a side of refried beans and rice. A green cilantro salsa in a plastic cup is also on the plate. The whole situation looks phenomenal and tasted incredible. An iced Jamaican margarita and frozen strawberry margarita. My wife’s hands in the background showing off her engagement ring even though we’ve been married for almost seven year lol

I've been thinking a lot about this correspondence between two reverends during the transatlantic slave trade. In which Luis Brandaon essentially makes an argument why it didn't matter if enslaved people were captured legally or illegally.
A letter from 1610 written by Reverend Luis Brandaon to Father Sandoval. The letter discusses the "illegal" capture of people in Angola in the transatlantic slave trade, arguing that it does not matter if the people were captured legally or illegally. I've highligted the last sentence that reads, "And to lose so many souls as sail from here - out of whom many are saved - because some, impossible to recognize, have been captured illegally does not seem to be doing much service to God. for these are few and those who find salvation are many and legally captured." To put it plainly, Brandaon is saying that when enslaved people escape or are freed it is not doing a service to God and that the majority of enslaved folks who are freed or escape were "legally" captured.

Email inbox with deeply troubling, back-to-back emails. One delivered at 3:49pm details the American Musicological Society’s NEH grants that were terminated and another delivered at 4:08pm comes from University of Cincinnati’s president announcing the visa revocations of a select group of students.

Once again burdened by the question: do I stay awake until 2am to see the Blood Moon or take my chances and catch the next one when I’m 128 years old
A time and date for the Blood Moon in my area. The photo shows that today, March 14, 2025 I should be able to see the lunar eclipse at 1:58am A screenshot that show the next lunar eclipse will take place on July 14, 2121. About 96 years and 122 days from now.

Spent a few days in Cincinnati, sadly did not get to experience the Skyline Chili ice cream which may end up being among the deepest regrets of my life. But I saw some friends absolutely shred and it was beautiful

One of the best parenting TikTok tips my wife saw was to visit your small suburb/neighborhood downtowns and just walk around and vibe. It was 60 and sunny today and we had the best time and, tbh, just a good cheap/free activity even if you’re not trying to navigate the chaos energy of a toddler.

A stunning development to this: tonight we were leaving the restaurant we go to every week and my wife jokingly told our son “say goodbye to all your fans”, so ,of course, he went to EVERY SINGLE table and yelled goodbye to every person in the restaurant
