I mean Sam Bradford and Sam Darnold do have similar career arcs!

If you want close to a "Boston pub" experience Sunday night if the Pats win, try Three Dogs Tavern or Historians Ale House. Both historically Patriots bars in the city 😁

For Monday recs (Pats win or lose): Blue Sparrow Coffee, then Dozens - get the breakfast burrito! Denver takes them seriously 🌯

Kemp
Home team flags
5.9/g playoffs vs 6.9/g for regular season

Away team flags
5.6/g playoffs vs 6.3/g regular season

Interestingly, though he's usually around the league average for flagging home teams each year, this year he's been MUCH more likely to flag home teams, +4.4% over league average!

Pretty good pass D and average run D numbers on both teams since WK 10... My guess is this means both Vrabes and Payton sell out vs run and dare Stiddy and Maye to throw deep vs man. Not necessarily predicting DEN upset, but with NE CB Davis hurt Stiddy could be DGAF on explosive deep shots... 🤔

Cute 😻 Definitely there should be a weekly "Orla's thoughts" post! Like "What are her thoughts on BUF management? Well she also likes to push things off the counter to see what happens" 😹

Which SB matchup for the Pats do you prefer? Sure Seattle has looked good, but give me a couple Sam Darnold turnovers and the Pats can break a few plays. I would argue the Rams and Stafford's veteran playoff experience are actually the worse matchup for the Pats but curious about your perspective.

Only 3 years off from the playoffs actually... we had a great chaos year with rookie Wonderboy Jones and the "63 runs and only 3 passes" snow game win over Buffalo to make it to the playoffs in 2021.... But yes 2022-2024 was a dark period 😄

Moral of the story? Flags are going to come from Torbert. Be a disciplined and execution focused team so the score isn't close enough for a yellow cloth to appear that it's the one determining the outcome.

Looking forward to the in-game coverage tonight @christopherprice.bsky.social!!

The Pats offense was penalized on 7 drives in those 2 games and still scored 4 TDs on those 7 drives. Their defense was penalized 5 drives but only allowed 3/5 drives to end in a score.

He's called 2 Patriots playoff games - the 2018 season win over the Chargers but also the 2017 season win over the Titans. In both games the Pats averaged 38 points and their opponent averaged 21 points, while the Pats were penalized 6.5 times/game while opponents were penalized 7.5 times/game.
January 11, 2026 at 3:12 PM
He's called 14 playoff games and the home team has an 8-6 record and fewer flags called on them (5.7 to 6.1 for visiting playoff teams).
January 11, 2026 at 3:12 PM
...from a "refs/umps are tasked with a difficult if not impossible job to lend factual clarity to an emotional game" perspective, the stats tell a different story:

Torbert has called twenty-three January games and the home team has a 15-8 record, with fewer flags (5.4 to 5.9 for visiting teams).

His last called AFC vs AFC playoff game was the 2022 CIN/KC AFC Championship travesty- 14 flags(!) plus a full 10 seconds after the Chiefs had failed to convert a 3rd and long he called a late flag on CIN and KC won the game (and the SB). The temptation is just to say "he's flag happy!" but...
January 11, 2026 at 3:12 PM
As a "refs are gonna screw the Pats" panic response: Torbert's last playoff game was the 2025 SB with 15 flags: we all remember the Chiefs being deluged under yellow cloths, but his crew actually called MORE flags on the Eagles (8 PHI flags -7 for KC).

3% of total teams (1/32) but 17% of AFC/NFC player of the week (6/36) isn't bad!
January 8, 2026 at 12:18 AM
And the one that stayed the same winner (PHI) broke the 20 year streak of different division winners in the NFC East!

And @patriots.bsky.social really at 27th after week 4 and ending at #2! How expectations change... Thanks for sharing, y'all have been a great value add to my feed this season!

And of course @thedrawplay.com for the absolute best drawn NFL comics and funniest "real time fan commentary" around. He loves his Giants even when they're bad!
