Long thought to be European, Oregon black truffles are now confirmed as a valuable, delicious, and distinct PNW lineage.

Found among doug firs & priced at ~$800/lb, this truffle’s identity rewrite started with preserved truffle specimens from the OSC fungarium

Thanks to truffle dogs, genomics & the Oregon State University (OSC) herbarium, a team of scientists led by Ben Lemmond have identified a new truffle species native to the PNW, Leucangium cascadiense
