Very sad news. Arts and Humanities are vital.
Why is it that when trying to cut costs, university execs go for the arts and humanities subjects that are frequently cheaper to teach and bring in strong income?
Don’t they realise this will create less income and cause additional cuts in the future?

It’s vote YES time! YES - because in the last two years we have lost over 500 jobs locally. YES - because the cuts are nationwide. YES - because inequality/precarity across the sector only continues to rise, not end, and YES - because we are underpaid, despite the cost of living crisis!

How is this ok? @ucu.org.uk
ASOS which is "work in the same way you’ve done for years" is not irresponsible. It's protecting our members until a fair & equitable hybrid policy is agreed.
UCU SMT then deducting 100% of daily pay from staff taking ASOS & undermining its own policy?
Now that’s irresponsible.

UKHE is broken.
Academic staff are expected to gain grant funding as part of the requirements for promotion.
We're being made redundant across the UK, we can't get grant funding, we can't get promotion, our work loads continue to increase.
Why would anyone want to come into the sector now?

After submitting a FOIA request UKRI, I obtained success rates by three grant call scheme and I can only say that I am disheartened by the results:

- ESRC New Investigator Grant 2025: 1%
