That ex-prisoner was visibly so uncomfortable to be there, didn’t speak up till the end.

We also were allowed, on that early tour, to be closed in a solitary confinement cell, door closed. I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face. Told law was cells had to have a light but no law said it had to be turned on, and prisoners were left in pitch black for the duration of their hold. Horrid

I’ve taken colleagues from Australia, Singapore, and Portland, OR. I went as a kid when it first opened in the r 70s and an ex-prisoner (with his two young daughters and wife) were on the tour with us. A lesson for me in rehabilitation and time served, people are not their worst mistakes.

Retired early to care for my husband w/a progressive disease, made more sense than spending our retirement $ for caregivers. I currently receive a federal ACA subsidy and now I’m forced to decide if I can afford health insurance - I’ve never looked forward to a birthday like my 65th for Medicare
