A research team, including UC Riverside School of Medicine Biomedical Scientist Scott Pegan, PhD, has developed a vaccine for Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) made from a non-infectious version of the virus that protects quickly and provides long-lasting immunity.

Last year, UCRSOM researchers led by Maurizio Pellecchia, PhD, developed a molecular crowbar strategy to degrade a protein that is overexpressed in many cancers. They designed compounds that bind to Pin1 and cause its degradation. This could lead to a new therapeutics.

Mahsa Khayat-Khoei, MD, a new faculty member in the Dept. of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at the UCR SOM, has received a Career Development Award from the American Academy of Neurology for her project “Monocyte Signatures in Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.”

On Monday, Oct. 13, UCR SOM will be hosting the All Cores Symposium from 10 am to 3 pm in the Genomics Building auditorium and lobby. The event will bring together the research cores from across the campus for a day of presentations, tabling and posters.

Anita Gupta, DO, a professor of medicine in the UCR School of Medicine, has been awarded the 2025 Arnold P. Gold Humanism in Medicine Award. It was presented to her during the Annual Convention & Conclave of the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists.

Last week, the UCR School of Medicine sent more than 25 students, staff, and faculty to the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) National Conference in Chicago, IL.

During the conference, Kriseira Lamas-Krauletz (MS2) received the LMSA National Scholarship Award.

The UCR Office of Alumni Engagement is hosting "UCR Night" at Angel Stadium as the Angels take on the Pirates on Thursday, April 24, 2025. First pitch is at 6:30 pm.
