I've setup my own ATproto PDS to (hopefully) avoid the Bluesky checks coming in. I just don't want to give a random company that I don't have a choice of dealing with some personal information for pointless reasons.

Migration of accounts between PDSes seem to be risky at the moment, so re-follow and delete seems the safer option.

I wonder whether making PDSs even easier and better for self-hosting or community-hosting would have a negative effect on Bluesky as a company. E.g. in terms of funding and investment.

Whilst troubleshooting, I noticed outgoing connections going to Bluesky from the server. I came across this Github issue 😔 It's probably not high priority.

I'm going to delete my Bluesky based account, the requirement to verify my age in the UK was the deciding factor.

It's a relatively simple setup for one user. Just needs a VPS hosted somewhere with IPv4 networking and some DNS entries. The only thing that has tripped me up (so far) is the IPv4 requirement, as I was running an IPv6 only server.
