Last night’s #hifi haul
The B&K amp was a darling of Stereophile magazine’s, along with Adcom’s. I don’t know anything about the PS Audio preamp, but it has a separate power supply so it must have been fancy in its day. Nothing is in mint condition but it’s for the wood shop so who cares?!
A slim black PS Audio 5.0 preamp sits on top of a hulking B&K stereo amplifier with vertical gold handles at each end and rack-mount ears. A black housing with gold metal plate in black lettering ‘PS Audio 5.0’ it is very heavy and looks a bit like an aquarium air pump. Coming out are a power cord and an umbilical cord which feeds the preamp. Vandersteen Audio Model 2 backplate showing separate inputs for Bass/Mid + Treble, and -3 to +2 adjusters for Tweeter and Mid-Range Levels. It is inset into a ‘sock’ which covers a series of boxes each holding an individual driver; A 10” active acoustic coupler acts as a subwoofer from 26Hz–35Hz; an 8” woofer handles duties from 35Hz–600Hz; a 4.5” midrange driver covers a very wide range of frequencies from 600Hz–5kHz (meaning there is no crossover point throughout this most critical of regions, which has always made the 2 an unusually coherent loudspeaker); and a 1” dome tweeter spans the 5kHz–30kHz range.

Well, 3 people following my wheel saga… replacement wheels arrived today. I was told on Aug. 3 that I’d be getting new and improved rims on my wheels… the front rim has a defect, the rear rim looks fine, and the driver looks brand new. I don’t know what the hell is going on at that factory 😂🤬💩💣😂😭
