This is a genuinely intolerable reality…

I don't remember my grandad; he died when I was three. But I'm told her never spoke about his experiences, and my aunt described him as "gentle".

System of a Down's "War" makes me think of him:
"We don't speak any more of war /
We don't speak any more of war /
We don't speak any more."

Today I talked my 14yo through a brief history of metal (starting with blues, through Led Zeppelin to Black Sabbath, to thrash, punk, nu metal, pop punk, emo...). Maiden came up!

And thanks to Craig @northstreetgames.bsky.social for hosting and being so helpful in getting testers to the table 😊

I enjoyed winning our game of Origin Story afterwards too 😃

And honestly I'm in love with this game - thinking back to when it was just a bundle of ideas, it feels like it's all grown up!

Thanks to Tim and Dan for playing with me!

We all slipped into our roles, negotiations were made (not least to scupper my victory), dramatic moments occurred. The game ran smoothly, edge cases were discovered and examined - a really positive playtest.

Unfortunate side effect is that the best authors should be willing to scrap whole sections...

I'd love to have a train as a commuting option, although bike is ideal for me with the exercise it brings too. I'd probably be more likely to use it for some of those places if I was 10 mins from a station too.

To put it another way you say it's "the centre of our whole national life". I can see how someone in London would feel that way, but as an outsider it feels like that "our" doesn't include me.

Interesting! Where do you go on the train? To be fair I mostly rely on my bike myself.

Bristol's network feels like it has been knocked about 500 metres from where it's should be. Trains don't go where I need to get, and there isn't a station near enough to my house to make it a day-to-day option.

It certainly didn't feel like even 1/7th of those type of events (political talks for instance) occurred in the West Midlands - and nor did it feel like Birmingham was even somewhere to include in the orbit of where I might travel, vs how I imagine it would feel to grow up in London.
