sorry if these are just dumb ramblings it was just the perfect opportunity to say this and I was itching to talk about this somewhere, I wish I was more articulate with this

idk if I'm even making sense, but basically, warcraft trolls have in a way shaped who I am, they made me be more conscious and ok with myself, with my roots, they've made me want to learn, I don't think any other fantasy race has impacted me like that
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
and idk I don't think people who tell us to "criticize trolls" or be "accountable" (for a fantasy race LMFAO) truly get it, I don't want trolls to be perfect, I want them not to be written like straight up 19th century racist stereotypes
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
the contrarian and making no art part was also so ridiculous, EVERY troll fan I've interacted with or followed is SUPER passionate about them or is very creative, I'm shit at drawing but I've been drawing trolls since I was like 10
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
that's why the person calling troll fans grifters or "republicans" was so laughable to me, I am latin american and I'd bet my views are opposite from that thinking
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
I guess I felt seen in a way, it's why I vibe with the Horde a lot, I've felt outcasted and ostracized due to my phenotype, appearance, personality or neurodivergence, and that's why it's so hard for me to play a race that's not a troll, tauren or orc, I vibe with the Kalimdor Horde races so much
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
and I feel this also goes in how I RPed my trolls when I RPed them, other people liked to emphasize the "savageness" of their characters, whereas I always liked to emphasize the cultural aspects, I liked making my trolls clean, hygienic and knowledgeable in herbalism
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
I also always really liked nature and animals (esp. reptiles and dinosaurs) so the Loa have always been my favorite warcraft religion
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
I remember having a conversation with my older cousin who got me into wow and he basically said "I knew you were gonna study anthropology at uni, because of how you were a troll fan and knew all the troll tribes"
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
I'd guess tauren also fit a lot with that, they're my 2nd favorites after all, and I feel it's for the same reasons, despite the bad and sometimes caricaturesque handling of cultures, they sorta made me want to learn more about who I was and about cultures in general
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
ofc blizz hasn't handled it respectfully, but in a way I felt "seen", ofc not claiming cultures I'm not a part of, but I felt a personal kinship with them because of that, no other fantasy race has been able to make such a deep connection with me as trolls
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
i can't really explain how it felt, but I've been called everything from obviously latino, but also arab, north african, caribbean, brazilian (part of latin america but people have made that distinction with me), and polynesian (i get this one a lot)
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
it also helped that they have inspiration from POC cultures around the world, esp. when I've always been "profiled" as people from around the world, if a particular group inspired warcraft trolls, i've been probably called it
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
warcraft trolls got me into mesoamerica, which made me get more into my own roots in the andes and southern chile, I was already interested in them since little but it kinda motivated me to learn more about both my own roots and the real cultures which inspired my favorite warcraft race
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
I'm from the south cone, not from mesoamerica or brazil or the caribbean, so I don't feel comfortable saying that they're inspired by -my- ancestors plus it wouldn't be correct anyways, but the proximity to Latinidad (as much as it is a construct) made me start seeing things
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
but basically, I saw this fantasy race who already had this proximity to things I liked like dinosaurs, and then I noticed the cultural inspirations that went into them, as badly handled as they were, especially at the start
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
I can go deeper into the dynamics of race in Chile, but basically I've been discriminated and I'd say I'm pretty privileged, it's way worse for native people and afro chileans (I can go deeper with this too if asked)
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
for context, i'm latin american, specifically Chilean, I'm mestizo so basically mixed, but I wanted to know more, as within our region there has been a lot of intentional cultural erasure
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
At that time, I started having questions ab my identity, the "where I come from" kind, I always knew I was "Brown", but I started pestering my family more about it
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
Then I started noticing something else around 12-13, their cultural inspirations, at first they were just a backdrop to me, for me they were the "jungle and dinosaurs" guys, but I started to see them differently around when I started adolescence
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
That's when I started to like trolls, just the association with dinosaurs and reptiles sparked that connection, then I started noticing other things that made me relate to them, idk if I started replicating them or something else (I'm nd)
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
Personal lore drop, but I started as Alliance on a priv server in my country as a dwarf hunter around like 2009, I was 9 at the time so obv little kid, then I found out there was a race that rode raptors (I was and still am obsessed with palaeontology) and I insta rerolled
November 30, 2025 at 6:29 AM
when I read that thing I was legit surprised, because it felt like me and that person live in completely different worlds, not to be self gratifying but I feel troll fans are some of the most passionate people about their fav race, and I feel I'm the same
