of Harcourt House. She was also a founder of the Sculptor's Association of Alberta. Pat competed and judged in ice sculpting competitions globally

Society and an original tenant of Harcourt House, Pat is an internationally celebrated sculptor having worked in such diverse media as marble, soap stone, bronze, ice and snow. Pat’s work is included in collections around the world, both private and public. Pat was also a respected judge for ice and snow sculpting competitions across Canada and the world; as far away as Japan.

I will be posting screenshots describing the more well-known artists that have contributed to the arts across Canada that started their careers at Harcourt House - Starting with Barbara Paterson. The artist responsible for the Famous Five sculptures in Ottawa and Calgary.
Barbara Paterson – One of the celebrated Canadian figure sculptors of our time and the creator of The Famous Five monument depicting the five Alberta women who challenged the legal definition of “persons” in Canada and won the right for women to vote and hold public office. Two copies of the monument exist, permanently installed on Parliament Hill in Ottawa and on Olympic Plaza in Calgary, respectively. The Famous Five monument in Ottawa is the first sculptural depiction on Parliament Hill of a woman who is non-royal. Barbara Patterson’s The Famous Five was featured on the reverse of the Canadian $50 bill. Barbara is also the creator of the sculpture Legacy of Love and Learning, the St. Albert City Hall monument to Her Honour, the Honourable Lois Hole, former Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta. Barbara is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal, the Alberta Centennial Medal, is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and in 2022 was awarded the Order of Canada (Member) for contributions to the arts in Canada. Barbara was one of the original studio tenants at Harcourt House from 1988 until she retired from active art practice in 2016.
