The nightstand is finally finished, cured, and installed! This one took a long time to do it right.

This is black walnut and baltic birch with purpleheart inlay. It has a hardwired USB charger and a hook for headphones.

Left this stir stick to dry and got a neat texture. Rubio Monocoat on a scrap piece of mahogany.

Note to self: next time make smaller sections with longer stock so each cross cut doesn't take two, SKETCHY passes on the table saw

It's pretty though

New side project: making wood scraps into presents. Just kind of riffing on this one, if you never see it again it went bad and turned into firewood

Nearing the finish line. I *might* have painted the drawer because I sanded through veneer/edge-banding.

Doing t-track kind of stressed me out. Maybe if you already have a ton of t-bolt jigs (or like those).

If I had a thicker outfeed table, I would have drilled dog holes and used holdfasts.

My outfeed is just melamine on Ikea legs, so for storage I made a cabinet to fit underneath.

Nightstand drawer mounted and cut to fit the junction box at the back.

I could have just made the drawer a little skinnier, but where's the fun in that?

This nightstand is my first attempt at powered furniture.

I went through a couple cheap, flush-mount USB chargers before deciding to DIY for real with a junction box. This way I can swap it for USB-C or add a power outlet later.

Whenever I mess up (which is often) I try to turn my mistakes into details. Mostly because I'm bad at hiding them.

Even with a detailed plan drawing, I still ran panel grooves through the front legs and rails. So. Now there's purpleheart inlay.

In August I started a bedside table as an anniversary gift. As with every project, it's now months overdue and required like 8 new tools/jigs. I think it's gonna be a good one, though. #woodworking
