I'll be tabling at Arts & Drafts Holiday Market at Chapel + Main brewpub in Dover on Dec 7! I'll be bringing my most recent illustration prints, plus custom printed shirts for kids and adults. And totes! It's looking to be a fun market / hangout hybrid 😎

Did some printing on textiles recently. Small batch stuff to try things out!

Here's the fifth one.

Oh! Also did a fresh run of Ready for Adventure

I've done it! Prints for the whole 5-entry series are now online

I went back to this image from 5+ years ago (!!) for some light touch-up. A fun little illustration. I like its youthful imperfect vibes. When are you ready for adventure? The moment you set out, of course!

Here's the development material for the concept / vibes series. I'm happy with how the final pieces came out, but I still like these sketches, too!

It's been very rainy today. Reminded me of this piece from lockdown

The final piece in my concept / vibes vignette series!

This one was the toughest. I started with the crystalline gash idea but struggled to pin down a composition. I like the cross-section approach here. It offers a unique perspective and differentiates the image from the others in the series.

My maybe-favorite entry from the concept / vibes series?

Sometimes you begin an image without fully knowing how you’ll resolve it. The tree with sunlight breaking through the canopy was one of those. With some experimenting I settled on something I liked.

Overall the in-store experience was so much better than the dumpster fire of online preorders the night before.

I'm relieved it worked out and that I had the flexibility to try for Plan B the next day. Phew! 😌

This is the first piece in the series where I got a little more curious about ways to explore the vignette format. The negative space helps form the path into the world of the illustration.

The second piece from my concept / vibes vignette series.

It was fun figuring out how to depict the waves and playing around with using waves to frame the bottom half of the piece.

The first in my concept / vibes illustration series for a personal project in development.

I’ve spent loads of time iterating on designs in the past. For this series I wanted to explore a range of gut-feeling aesthetics relevant to the project.

(I'll make this a 🧵 for the series, more soon)

A movie you've watched more than six times, using only GIFs

Over the years I've done a number of close studies of artists whose work I really enjoy, to see what I can learn from their work. I've compiled the studies into "sketchbooks" on my website

Around the release of Smash Bros Ultimate, I did an October series of Smash Bros digital inkwash character illos with my 32 top picks for fighters. It was my first time depicting a lot of these characters – a fun challenge!

A few years back I did a series of digital inkwash poetry comics called Haiku What I Can. A haiku comic has a unique ability to capture a moment. Of all the comics I've published, this one has resonated with folks the most

More design work, this time focused on logos. Finding clear, simple, expressive ways to communicate a core idea can be oh so satisfying

A few pieces of design work I've done. I like exploring the ways composition and the arrangement of elements can serve a project's goals

Working on character-focused art puts me in my creative happy place more than any other kind. I've done a good bit of fan art but also original characters, too

Hey there! I'm Tyson. I love characters, stories, games, and helping people with their creative projects. Give me a shout if you'd like to work together!

It was a creative challenge for sure, but by doing some experimentation and play, I was able to establish a shared expressive eye-based language among the cast that gets the job done. (2/4)

More from the upcoming indie game Monochrome Heights. I was tasked with making expressive in-game portraits for the pre-existing robot cast for use during cutscenes. That's right, expressive robots! Robots without eyebrows or mouths! (1/4)

A closeup from my cover art for the video game Monochrome Heights. This is the lead character, Happy, a robot who has to climb a huge tower full of hazards! I didn't design him, but it was up to me to translate his purely pixelated form into a more fully illustrative style. It was a fun challenge!

I’ve been contributing art to the in-development video game Monochrome Heights on and off since last year. It's been fun! I’m excited to show my work and discuss a bit about the process on my website.
