Most election takes I've been hearing ("bad year for incumbents") don't really take into account races outside the city. I'd love to hear some analysis on broader trends, e.g. what Seattle and Burien have in common.

Regional trend analysis please!

If the city wants to do this change, they still can - they just have to go back and follow all of the requirements that the board says were missed under state law.

I don't really understand that question, sorry.

The emergency ordinance was approved 4-0.

The actual text of the change wasn't even available when the agenda was viewed on Clyde Hill's website over the weekend for what it's worth.

WA's middle housing law doesn't include a size limit on cottage housing. Keep in mind that Clyde Hill is only required to allow up to two units per lot anyway.

They have to go to Merriam-Webster to find a defense for the idea that cottage housing should be smaller than a single-family house.

"The City Council finds that an exemption under SEPA for this action is necessary to prevent an imminent threat to public health and safety through construction of overly large cottage housing."

The median home sale price in Clyde Hill is $2.4M. This ordinance states that continuing to maintain no upper limit on the size of cottage housing would not "serve the purpose and intent of the state’s middle housing legislation."

Clyde Hill doesn't have a size limit on single family homes.

No, they are ballots dropped in boxes by election night or received by mail with a valid postmark.

Kurt Dresner still trails incumbent Jon Pascal. But right now it looks like three of the four Cherish Kirkland-aligned "sanity slate" candidates are going to lose.

Recounts don't usually change much - King County elections is good at what they do.
November 11, 2025 at 12:02 AM
The board found that the city failed to follow its established public participation program when it came to this change, failed to provide 60 days’ notice to the state Department of Commerce, and failed to conduct SEPA review.

The ordinance now gets remanded back to the city council.
