I am not going to stop calling it a cancel attempt because that is what it is. This isn't the community holding Thor responsible; it is a loud minority crying about a pragmatic decision.

It is cancel culture and that is a fact.
January 16, 2025 at 1:50 PM
Even if you didn't like the idea of the collab, just accept that it was done for apolitical pragmatic reasons and just go on business as usual, because attempting to cancel Thor is going to amount to absolutely zilch. This hate train will fizzle out and business will resume as usual.
January 16, 2025 at 10:35 AM
The best thing people can do is to just accept that Thor collabed with Asmongold and that there was no problem with Thor collabing with Asmongold as the collab with apolitical, because this hate train is giving more spotlight to Asmongold's views than the collab ever would have.
January 16, 2025 at 10:31 AM
We are defending Thor here. Everyone agrees Asmongold is an asshole and those kind of statements are wrong. However, he is still a prolific streamer when it comes to gaming and that has weight. Thor is simply being pragmatic and as long as politics are kept out of the collab, there is no problem.
January 16, 2025 at 10:27 AM
And as long as that is kept out of the collab, it does not matter. People aren't so weak minded as to suddenly thinking that kind of thinking is valid because Thor collabed with Asmongold on an apolitical topic that Asmongold is a prolific streamer within.
January 16, 2025 at 10:25 AM
I am not trolling and the ones crying here are the ones trying to cancel Thor. I am not defending Asmongold either; I am defending Thor's decision to collab with Asmongold, which is perfectly fine and sane given the context of his goal.
January 16, 2025 at 10:23 AM
It isn't platforming and it does matter what most people will do. That some is a negligable number of weak minded people if they even exist at all.

The hate train on Pirate Software is ultimately meaningless. It will fizzle out, Asmongold's political views won't spread, it will be business as usual
January 15, 2025 at 10:01 PM
I am not defending Asmongold; I am defending Thor's choice in collabing with Asmongold in a manner that does not allow for Asmongold's political views to spread. I don't know how you got the idea I was supporting Asmongold when the subject of the thread here is Thor.
January 15, 2025 at 9:51 PM
He is saying, "Cancel me, I guess" because he knows the attempt won't amount to anything. It is only a loud minority kicking up a ruckus.

In a couple of months, this controversy will just be a footnote at best and it will be business as usual. Hate Trains are quick to form and fizzle.
January 15, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Only a loud minority is being alienated.
January 15, 2025 at 6:48 PM
What you don't get is that the vast majority of people are not that weak minded. People aren't going to suddenly look up to Asmongold; they won't suddenly switch their views to his. Most people don't even know about Asmongold's political view and still won't know.
January 15, 2025 at 6:48 PM
No, a clout chaser is someone who tries to spread a message without meaning it just so they can acquire internet likes for the sake of acquiring them; Thor isn't doing that. Thor is trying just to acquire likes or clicks for the sake of collecting them.
January 15, 2025 at 6:45 PM
People are trying to cancel him. All this talk about him showing his true colors or how they never liked him, how he is helping spread a certian political view, or how dissappointed they are, is cancel culture.
January 15, 2025 at 6:43 PM
Ever heard of no kill like overkill? Asmongold being prolific only helps Thor because the controversy is only occuring in a loud minority. Most people do not know nor care about Asmongold's political views; they just know he's a big game streamer and that just adds more weight to Thor.
January 15, 2025 at 6:41 PM
And the controversy doesn't really matter, because only a loud minority cares about the controversy. That's why Thor said to go ahead and try to cancel him. Because he knows it won't amount to anything. In a couple of months, it will be business as usual.
January 15, 2025 at 6:39 PM
But would that viewer be as prolific as Asmongold? Hate him or not, Asmongold's name carries a bit of weight. However, using a prolific person doesn't mean you are clout chasing or dog whistling. If you have a goal like trying to help some devs out, calling on a bigger name makes sense.
January 15, 2025 at 6:37 PM
You can talk to controversial people without it being either of those. In fact, most people don't care about Asmongold's political views as most people are not on bsky or twitter and are not complaining or trying to cancel Thor. It is just a loud minority doing this.
January 15, 2025 at 6:09 PM
And did Thor properly defend the developers without mentioning any of Asmongold's controversial political views? If yes, then it looks like Thor made the right choice.
January 15, 2025 at 6:07 PM
Even so, he is still one of the most prolific streamers and has relevant information on the topic that Thor wanted to discuss and can do so without going on a tangent onto his political views.
January 15, 2025 at 6:05 PM
It does not. I point back to my example with HP Lovecraft, he was a shitty person. We still use his work as an inspiration to this day without spreading his racist views. You can interact with people without spreading their political views if they keep quiet about it during the interaction.
January 15, 2025 at 6:03 PM
I have thought about what I am saying and I am 100% adamant about it. HP Lovecraft was a racist and bigot, we still endearingly reference his work in fiction to this day. It does very much matter if they stay on topic and doing so does not spread their political views.
January 15, 2025 at 6:00 PM
It does matter if they are talking about their views or not. Terrible people have made profound contributions in their fields before. HP Lovecraft was a bigot, his works are still referenced to this day. Just because someone is terrible does not mean everything they do or know is terrible.
January 15, 2025 at 5:51 PM
It does work like that. It isn't like letting your neighbor into your house. It is letting him speak about a specific and narrow apolitical topic.
January 15, 2025 at 4:58 PM
There could also be factors other than just their views as well.

Ultimately, it is fine to interact with people with shitty views as long as you aren't talking about those shitty views and are directly and actively spreading them. Most people have some controversial opinions they keep to themselves
January 15, 2025 at 1:49 PM
I hate the CCP, but if my country wanted to collaborate with them to make some ground breaking advancement in some scientific field, for example, I would whole heartedly support it. Maybe an extreme example, but you get the idea.
