Weir is an SF author after Larry Niven, not Ursula K Le Guin and that makes his work arguably lesser to those who can both get the science right and explore the themes it evokes. But the "puzzlebox sci fi" genre he occupies focuses much more on the joy of the problem and it's solution.

Another point for Omelas/The Dispossessed. The Left Hand of Darkness is iconic but is a lot less of a paradigm shift in 2024 than it was in 1969 but the Dispossessed feels perhaps even more relevant than ever.

Why is re-entry prediction important?

If you lived in the US in 2001 it could have won you a free taco!

Taco bell put a target in the ocean near Australia where Russian space station Mir was supposed to land, if it hit everybody in the US got a taco

Sadly the prediction wasn't accurate enough :(
