Does really highlight just how much AA capability develops and is a focus for the USN. Like even a year or so later and it would have been just ridiculous amounts of flak in comparison

I think even losing one of them would be seismic in GOP land as they think those states are GOP-land forever.
Losing 3 would be catastrophic, and if it's somehow a clean sweep it is biblical

I agree with assessment too. Because boots on the ground on really any moderate scale will lead to US casualties...
And if the idea of action against Venezuela is unpopular now, it's gonna get a lot worse, especially inside the military imo, when flag-draped caskets start coming home

I think it just has far more to with Senators being afraid of nuking the filibuster. Like this was gonna end by standing down or forcing the GOP to get rid of the damn thing and force the vote. I would have preferred the latter

I do not know if there is victory per se. The chance to win this issue was in November 2024. But it did put the GOP on the back foot for the last 40 days in a way they hadn't been yet.
It was likely to end this way, but to cave just days after the election just is poor optics imo.

I honestly would be surprised of any Senate Dem retiring from a leadership position. RN a lot of that old guard seems keen on relinquishing power when they die.

Again I think this is a problem of time. It has been less than a year since we got punched in the mouth. The party is seen as flailing because it does not have data points since last November on where they stand in high profile races like VA/NJ. Unfortunately that is what politics is now.

It is fortunate that American symbols are synonymous with liberty and republicanism. Makes it very easy to co-op patriotism back to the good guys
