people who lived through the prep work for Y2K are always rightfully defensive about that period of time in computing. NPR should have said “Y2K didn't live up to the hype *BECAUSE* years and billions of dollars were spent on painstaking preparation” and avoided some of the backlash here 😬
People feared the computer glitch would mean "the end of the world as we know it." Thankfully, Y2K didn't live up to the hype after years and billions of dollars were spent on painstaking preparation.
