I was honored to speak at Mplify GNE about building an AI-ready innovation workforce. Was extra meaningful as Mplify, formerly MEF, was co-founded by my dad in 2001. (Been pitching this talk for a while but my dad has always been careful to avoid any appearance of nepotism! Someone else invited me!)

Excited to announce I'll be speaking at Open Source Summit Japan, plus joining Emily Lovell, Shu Muto, Junya Okabe, and Masaki Kimura for a panel discussion.

I'll be at AERA 2026 for our paper, "Collaborative, Open-Source Projects as Innovative Work-Based Learning Opportunities for Underserved Computer Science Students"!

Had a great time at the National Science Foundation ExLENT PI meeting this week for @codeday.org’s work getting Community College Baccalaureate students into AI careers!

Steve Feng recently published a preprint of a very interesting discussion paper on the impact of GenAI on Open Source communities. If you're involved in open source, I recommend giving it a read! (I'm a co-author but played a very small part; Steve did most of the work!)

"Students want choice and autonomy in their learning, [...] to do relevant work [...]. Finally, students felt it was important to grapple with and do work that mattered and had a broader impact on the world"

Love this! Validates what we have seen partnering with students to build/run @codeday.org.
I’m excited for Jayne, Rotem, and Megumi to share our work imagining futures of CS education with youth tomorrow at ICER! Youth have some radically different visions from the status quo of K-12 CS education: dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/...

If you're at #FOSSY, make sure to drop by our talk today at 2PM: "Nurturing the Next Generation of Open Source Contributors" (in the "FOSS in Education" room). And drop by our booth to say hi!

On my way back from #hitec, where I had the opportunity to share about our NSF funded work and learn from other emerging technology educators!

It was amazing to see three of our students present at Innovate QA yesterday. We are working to help more students share their real-world learnings and fresh perspectives at tech conferences and online.
One of the best things about helping students ship code in production software is hearing new perspectives & insights; 3 of these students shared their learnings at Innovate QA yesterday. We're proud to drive outcomes like this for CTC students (w/ support from the U.S. National Science Foundation).

Had a great time at @codeforamerica.org #CfASummit last week. Meeting the folks writing software to deliver services to hundreds of millions of Americans was refreshing, and I'm excited to find ways for @codeday.org students to contribute to the many critical open source projects in this space.

It's always energizing to see how friendly and supportive the Python community is! Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth or caught our talk at the Education Summit on Thursday. See you at Open Source Summit!
We had such a great time at @pycon.us. Thanks to the many folks who stopped by our booth to chat about mentoring opportunities in tech! (And thanks Kinesis for helping us give away an mWave ergonomic keyboard to one of our new mentors!) Our next stop is @linuxfoundation.org #OSSummitNA in June!

If you're at @pycon.us, come say hi at the @codeday.org booth! (I'm also giving a talk at the education summit soon!)

SIGCSE needs reviewers! (We usually get about half as many as we'd comfortably like.)

This is a great chance for newer authors to learn what makes a good CS education paper.

I got a $2,500 treadmill for free because the controller (which is an extremely cheap Android tablet) died and iFIT charges $1,000 for a replacement. So my Friday night project is replacing it with a $10 PCB.
