This sits with OBRs wider remit - again in law - to publish economic and fiscal outlook (EFO) reports each year . They don’t make the weather, just report it . They get criticised for accuracy and pessimism, but in their 14 years have tended to be a bit too optimistic of govt policies

This is a quite staggering misunderstanding of what the OBR role is - and a classic case of shoot the messenger.
OBR did not make up the 6 sets of fiscal rules the Tories had in 14 yrs or two Reeves has had so far, they merely have a legal obligation to say whether they will be met or breached 1/2

It’s not a debate sadly, we are also seeing the death of critical thinking . There are some very professional looking posts on Tok Tok, Facebook, X , etc. that includes ‘facts’ on immigration etc. but are total cobblers - & not clear whom is posting . But viewers don’t ask themselves, is this true?
