Scenes from today’s @unite4vets.bsky.social rally on the Mall. No kings, no fascistic birthday parades. Let’s just honor the commitments we’ve made as a country to our veterans and servicemembers.

Corum and Johnson’s “Airpower in Small Wars” would be good assigned reading as well. The book ends with seven lessons on using air power in low-intensity conflict or COIN/CT scenarios and, TL;DR, this campaign violated all of them.

A fun afternoon volunteering with the Rock Creek Conservancy to help maintain the historic Carter Barron Amphitheater, with the ultimate goal of reopening it in the future as an outdoor music venue for the people of DC. Last photo is a future rendering - would be such a great venue!

This quote from the WWI Memorial hits hard right now. We owe it not just to ourselves and future generations to defend this country’s ideals, but also to those past who died to defend them.

A trip to Liberty Island today reminds me how far we’ve drifted from our moorings. But Emma Lazarus’s poem is who we actually are as a people. To quote Chaplin’s speech in The Great Dictator, “The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed.” This too shall pass.

The crowd outside HHS at lunchtime today, protesting the assault on scientific and medical research in this country. The fact is that every dollar of taxpayer money spent on NIH research stimulates another $2.50 in US economic activity - not even counting the health benefits!

Inspiring to see the size of the turnout today at the Reflecting Pool. We the People will not go quietly into the dark night of fascism. #50501

This is insane! USAID was established and funded by Congress. It can’t be unilaterally shuttered by POTUS - much less an unelected oligarch - any more than he could eliminate DOD. It’s obviously illegal, but also a decimation of U.S. soft power and unilateral disarmament in geostrategic competition.

Annoying that the sun is setting during a 4:30pm run, but the DC monuments do look gorgeous at twilight.

Hey Bluesky! Trying this thing. I’m Wyatt. A Navy veteran living in DC with my husband. Interests include LGBTQ issues, urbanism and public transit, politics (although maybe taking a pause from that for a bit), and exploring all that the DMV area has to offer. Look forward to connecting!
