Audiobooks are not reading. However, that doesn't mean that if a person chooses to gain information via audiobooks, they are illiterate
Some people memorize better by reading, or by writing, others by listening, or speaking. The thing here is combat the misconception that "only cultured people read"

But reading isn't only done with the eyes. Take, for example, Braille, which is for blind people
I think the most accurate definition of the verb "read" would be something like.. "Obtaining info of a tangible source of symbols/letters/characters, via touch or vision"
