And yes he's old, but I don't think the urge to retire will ever be there, so that would have to manifest as literal death or incapacitation to get him out of the picture. Entirely possible but hardly a cert.

He also isn't barred from being.elected VP at all, and the George Wallace approach of having a completely pliable figurehead occupy the office while he carries on as before wouldn't seen out of character. Likely? Who knows. Possible, though.

He isn't constitutionally barred from running or being on the ballot by the strict reading of the amendment. One notion - paranoid, maybe - is that the courts let him get to election day on the ballot and he then dares them to block the "will of the people".

but i'm *highly* skeptical that the nyt slapping "trump is an unhinged lunatic fascist" as a banner headline across its front page every day would do harris any electoral favors whatsoever. and it remains mystifying to me that this seems to be the baseline assumption of so many intelligent people.

it's just that i'm absolutely convinced that anyone who thinks the word or tone choices in e.g. the nyt's coverage of trump or harris are statistically significant drivers of the voting choices of undecideds doesn't understand who undecided voters are or what their media diets are like these days.
