The email, printed in it's entirety above, was sent with a 13-page attachment from Wells Fargo Bank, outlining the benefits of USPS privatization and what would have to happen for that venture to be successful. Last Wednesday, Elon Musk, said publicly that the US Postal Service and passenger railroad Amtrak should be privatized. "I think logically we should privatize anything that can reasonably be privatized," Musk said at a Morgan Stanley conference. "I think we should privatize the Post Office and Amtrak for example…We should privatize everything we possibly can."

Linda McMahon, testifying before a Senate committee considering her nomination to be secretary of education, said she did not know whether a school would be legally permitted to offer a Black history class or allow clubs centered on racial or ethnic identity.
She said she would “want to know what the clubs are doing.”
“That’s pretty chilling,” replied Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut).
Asked specifically if a Black history course would be legal, she said she was “not quite certain.”

Project 2025, written by several former Trump staffers, has called for the agency to be “broken up and downsized”, claiming the agency is “harmful to US prosperity” for its role in climate science. Rosenberg noted it’s been a longtime goal of corporations that rely on Noaa data to prevent the agency from making the data public, instead of giving it directly to private corporations that create products based on it, such as weather forecasting services. He also argued there is no legal authority to abolish Noaa or reduce its budget, outside of reducing it through Congress. “There’s no real transparency. They just show up wherever they want, do whatever they want. They’re following through on major budget cuts and major staffing cuts,” Rosenberg added. “I think the strategy here is: ‘Well, we’re just going to do it and dare somebody to stop us, and by the time they stop us, we’ll have destroyed it.’”

And roughly 20 people with Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency,” known as DOGE, have begun working inside the Education Department, looking to cut spending and staff, according to three people familiar with the situation and records obtained by The Washington Post.
At least some of DOGE staffers have gained access to multiple, sensitive internal systems, the people said, including a financial aid dataset that contains the personal information for millions of students enrolled in the federal student aid program.
 The DOGE probe, which began late last week, is a prelude to a more dramatic effort to make good on one of Trump’s campaign promises: eliminating the Education Department altogether.
 A White House official confirmed the White House is preparing for executive action later this month that will fulfill Trump’s campaign pledge to defund the department.

Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, has appointed Pete Marocco, the department’s director of foreign assistance, to run the day-to-day operations of the U.S. Agency for International Development, stating in a letter that Marocco would “begin the review and potential reorganization of USAID’s activites to maximize efficiency and align operations with the national interest.” He added that the review might include “the suspension or elimination” of programs, projects, missions, bureaus, centers and offices, as well as reducing the work force. - Karoun Demirjian, The New York Times
