I need to host one of these at some point, it sounds like a blast ^^

I’d love to do this if I had the money to support it, self hosting my PDS has been great for my main accounts on my home server, but opening it up to the wider community would get expensive in storage costs fairly quickly which is not something I could easily eat month to month >.>

In contrast, self hosting my PDS has been a breeze, and I’m shocked at how seamlessly it’s continued to federate with the rest of the ATProto net.
I didn’t loose all my old posts, I don’t have to refollow everyone, and I didn’t even have to change the dns for my handles. It just worked out the box

I’ve tried out a number of different mastodon servers (and self hosted a few times) and the discoverability just isn’t the same. I like the activityPub standard, but the way that it handles data migration and the issues that arise across servers are just a huge weak point imo

I also just feel like I’ve been really disconnected from my little side this year. I never get padded up anymore, and I don’t even remember the last time I had some proper little time to myself. I honestly wonder if I just should ignore it like I used to. Bleh

I’ve been hearing about a lot of the stuff going on with it. I’m lucky my small town has been really chill for the most part, but I can only imagine how rough it is in the bigger cities O~o
