Ecumaniac: ELCA pastor, UMC denominational staff member, married to an Episcopal priest (The Very Rev. Dr. Grace Burton Edwards), and member of The North American Academy of Liturgy, the Consultation on Common Texts, and the Order of Saint Luke
I can tell you most Christian denominations that have addressed this have said LDS folk have not received Christian baptism. Therefore, we offer converting LDS folk Christian baptism, not rebaptism. United Methodists and the LDS agreed that they do not recognize each other's baptisms as Christian.

Whence this graph? And how are cases even being counted now that the CDC is tracking data only via wastewater now, which they say may (not does) predict risk, not actual case counts?

When you've spent a lot of money to get a bigger piece of land and then to get some kind of utilities connected to it, well, you're likely to defend this as better. Even if it's not. Sort of El Mystico and Janet Sketch in reverse: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ujR...

Usage certainly connects them in American English. I don't think it does in the same way in other languages. Other English speakers tend to use physician or surgeon rather than doctor for an MD.

Etymologically, there is no association of doctor (from the Latin, docere, to teach) and the Latin and Greek words for healing. A doctor is someone deemed qualified to teach something-- whatever that something may be. A healer (from the Greek therapeuein) is someone who attends to another.

ELCA Lutheran here-- I think the categories are a bit off. Our brand of Lutheran would be very similar to Anglican under his criteria, and so "Cathodox" as well. We have bishops, weekly sacraments, even saints days. We just don't pray to saints (as is also true of Anglicans generally).

Welcome to my world.
It's even more egregious when its in a live chat, and I've just given them -- as in in the immediately previous reply-- the resource that can answer their question, and they clearly never bothered to read it.

BTW, for this Ordinary Time (when the practice of my congregation is to use the Apostles Creed) we're saying "resurrection of flesh" and not "the resurrection of the body." We'll probably retain that.

General trained you well!

There is also Luther's commentary on the Apostles Creed in the Small and Large Catechisms. bookofconcord.org/large-catech... and bookofconcord.org/small-catech...

It's not "the resurrection of the body." It's more radical (clearly anti-gnostic!)-- resurrection of flesh (no articles -- sarkos anastasin). Resurrection is not resuscitation. It is new creation. And that flesh is resurrected points in two directions: pro-flesh, and ALL flesh, not just humans.

The all-cause mortality connection is also there for people who face transportation barriers: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC... These folks are also more likely to use emergency departments.

Yes. There are plenty of other occasions for sharing other kinds of stories about the deceased. The funeral is not the venue for this. Its focus is steadfastly on the proclaiming the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the ground of the hope for all of us (and all things!) and each of us.

They had to, right? I mean, what with the midrange S25 FE going thinner and all. Apple is constantly playing catch-up.

That you are contacting the clergyperson to say, hey, I'm going to be looking for another church, rather than simply ghosting the church is a great start. This might be better as an appointment than a letter or email, though. I hope you'll think about that possibility.

Typical response from those who left to go to a more traditionalist body or start one. United Methodists, Evangelical Lutherans, and Presbyterians in PCUSA get similar kinds of comments from those who exited to do their own more traditionalist thing. Guess it's not enough just to leave.

Walking while reading aloud multiple times until you don't need the text anymore works pretty quickly. And yes, do start at the end, then go to the beginning.

The profile notes the diocese has called itself The Episcopal Church of Alabama since 1960.

Still, that's insider baseball, right? It's what they call themselves, not their proper name.

As in, if you were from here, you'd know to call us "The Episcopal Church of Alabama."

And how much has he spent on gold tchotchkes to kitsch up the White House already?

I aspire to have the OED someday. Kudos to Dr Brandon for getting the questions framed and answered properly.

Her attorney is actually well-known in conspiracy/anti-vax evangelical circles. He was actively promoting the view that worldwide vaccination was a covert attempt to create worldwide depopulation. He'd get a hearing from the likes of RFK for sure, if not so much from legit courts.

Yep-- put a wealthy, white convicted felon who literally trafficked children into minimum security luxury prisons, and put immigrants with brown skin and no criminal record into Alligator Alcatraz. That tracks with the ethics of this administration.
