Beyond the cat tunnels, behind the trolley, in the distance?

I'm sure that you've seen this, but I went back to dig for it.

And on an
other note: did David Swanson ever get a chip butty from Joe's, Market Street, St. Andrews? When I was there it was 35p (thus, 3 for £1.05, which I occasionally managed).
What is a pie barm? In Wigan, it’s a way of life | David Barnett
I might not ever have thought about pie barms again but for the flap on Twitter this week. And now I can’t get the wonderful old Wigan Kebab out of my head

No more nuclear, even more renewables instead.

No more Unionists, Independence instead.

Hanoi Rocks - Hanoi Rocks Box (2001)

4 CDs covering the entire first phase of their career - up to 1985 or so. 2 CDs of the earlier albums and rarities, the third CD is most of "All Those Wasted Years" plus tracks from "Two Steps from the Move", 4th CD is solo stuff.

No, you're not alone. But I didn't know the technicalities, because I'm not a musician. But I wince ever time.

Elsinore!

Kronborg Slot, Helsingør, a short train ride from Copenhagen. A castle on top of a fort... a fascinating place we were glad to discover on our third visit. It's a hybrid of a fort, castle and palace. Highly recommended.

It is. But with Glasgow hotels eye-bleedingly expensive for our particular night, and "Glasgow (Cumbernauld)" on our route home and cheap, it seemed a good compromise.

There used to be a hotel in North Queensferry listed as "Edinburgh (North)", but that changed with the owners!

Literally copied from my inbox: thank you, Premier Inn.

"A few weeks until your stay at Glasgow (Cumbernauld) hotel!"

Rory Gallagher - Stage Struck (1980)

My first Rory Gallagher album, so I have a big soft spot for it, though it isn't "Irish Tour '74", and never will be. The closing "Shadowplay" shows that all live Rory is good.

Right, Dad's house sorted out, back home. More to follow. I haven't forgotten, I'm just over-run!

Second pair is The Guildford, I think.

Not sure about the first.

An eclectic selection!

And I have a fair degree of overlap there, too: and some stuff that I haven't heard / heard of.

I've got stuff I urgently need to do today, but I'll come back with further thoughts...
November 10, 2025 at 12:21 PM
All I was thinking was that across those artists, there would probably be something that you'd like, depending on what else you like.

I know it's all "classic canon", but I'm from the generation before it got ignored, so I got it in the 10 years after it happened. Lucky me, I reckon .
November 10, 2025 at 11:37 AM
Sorry, I just meant the single band or artist that if someone asked your taste in music that would be one that pretty much defined your taste.

Me: Grateful Dead.
November 10, 2025 at 10:57 AM
I'm at the old end of Gen X, and these were my foundational bands - I think I have probably heard all the albums by all of these at some point. I suspect that you would find something worthwhile from one or all of them if you were inclined to dig.

What's your touchstone artist?

B. Fife and Central's list is going to be full of Unionists unless we get Greens in, assuming that most of the constituency seats go SNP.

Benbecula! See my replies in the thread above.

Not Donegal, Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides, picture from the Visit Scotland website. I know the shape of the mountains in South Uist, a view I have looked at hundreds of times!

Hamley's has moved out of Regent Street?! Of course not...

The London I went back to in June for one of my occasional visits remains a busy, expensive (alas) but undangerous delight - even Brixton tube station late on a Friday night was OK.

My experience, but then again of course it isn't hers.

See also the UK's "Labour Party".

Theoretically, they believe in a lot of what I believe in (except for Scottish, Welsh and NI right to decide their own futures).

In practice, they never seem to get round to carrying out any of the policies that we share.

Strange, that.

OK, I wrote that before the guitar solo and Sabbath tracks.

I stand by the first half being a bit flat!

Ozzy Osbourne - Tribute to Randy Rhoads (1982)

Somewhere out there is a great Ozzy live album, but sadly, this isn't quite it for me. The guitar isn't forward enough, and the sound's flat.

Ah well.
