From a bird’s perspective, there are essentially two seasons: breeding & non-breeding. Feather coloration & therefore a bird’s appearance often changes between the two. Golden-crowned Sparrows will have a much brighter yellow crown and fully saturated black stripes during breeding season.

I just re-read your original post, 205 species is incredible for 1 week! I really like all of the different Tanagers, Sparrows, and other unique songbirds.
