The downside is that most of my thriends can't understand what my lyrics. I play with the idea of translating some lyrics. But I'm not there yet

Maybe some day

Now I finally write in my own language.

A friend who made the same switch said it like this:

"When I was writing in English, the language owned me. Now I can own the language."

There is a downside, though.

I tried creating lyrics in Norwegian, but it was hard. I have identified two issues:
1. I needed to practice.
2. I knew there language better, and could identify bad writing

And after a few attempts I cracked the code.

I wrote in English because it sounded cool. And right. The lyrics of my heroes was in English

But it can get weird.

Attending a concert in Norway, with a Norwegian artist speaking in Norwegian between the songs. And switching to another language when they start singing.

It's a little strange

Ohh! That's gorgeous

Have you recorded an actual piano, or ifs it a virtual instrument?

Your singing and playing is 🔥
Congrats on your new songs!

Maybe someone hating on your work means that it has a direction. It has a purpose.

And only you can say if that direction and purpose aligns with yours.

So then maybe - just maybe - it really doesn't matter if somebody doesn't appreciate your work?

I want everyone to like what I make.

Or do I?

If everybody likes it, doesn't that mean that it really isn't anything. It doesn't have an opinion. I doesn't have a point of view.

Or rather: my playing had matured.

That could happen to you too. You might not know it, but if you met someone you played with (or for) a few years ago, they will.

That hadn't occurred to me. I hadn't really noticed that I had improved, I just had.

It probably didn't happen by accident, since I had attended a folk high school, studying music for a year, but either way, my playing had improved.

...when we played together a couple of years ago."

I proudly pointed at my new Marshall tube amp. I'd upgraded from a small 2x8" peavey amp, since the tour we did.

But that wasn't it.

"You used to solo all the time", he said. "Now you lay back and bring the groove."

A couple of years later I met the keyboard player again. We had both moved to Trondheim (a bigger town in Norway) to study, and I was invited to play guitar in his band.

At one band practice he said to me: "Your playing sounds really good. You're sound so much better than ...

The drummer and bass player were from my town and the keyboard player was from a neighboring town, so I didn't know him that well. He was amazing. I don't think I've ever met anyone with better ears, but I'm digressing.

We had a great time and the tour was a success.

Yeah, I never really did much on Twitter 🤷‍♂️

But I had some conversations on Threads that are partly deleted.

You'll do what you want, I just gave you my 2 cents 😊

I get that.

I probably need to give up the idea of permanence.

I just find it sad to see previous conversations ruined by deleted posts.
February 10, 2025 at 5:52 PM
I'm sort of puzzled that you do this. You ruin the conversations that you took part in for those that are still on Threads.

I get that you want to distance yourself from Meta, though.

But your take on this makes me think twice about commenting on your posts on here Bluesky.

I started playing guitar when I was 13.

It was the eighties.

It was Kiss, Iron Maiden, Dio, Bon Jovi and Gary Moore.

Lead guitar was distorted. That was just the way of the world.

One summer I visited my uncle. And my world shifted

The first track, Once Upon a Time in the West, started.

And it sounded glorious.

But what was that guitar sound?

It wasn't distorted.

It wasn't a cranked Marshall.

That was the day I learned that you can in fact play lead guitar without overdrive or distortion.

My uncle had an extensive record collection , where I discovered some true classics.

He introduced me to Deep Purple, Kansas, The Eagles and Rainbow. A smorgasbord of great stuff.

A transformational moment was when I put on Communiqué by Dire Straits.
